SRI SUTHARATHNESWAR,OOTATHUR, NEAR TIRUCHI PADAALUR

When Appar wants to sing on this place, he saw full of sivalingas in this place

Hence he stood away by 5 kilomater at Padalur and sang songs on the temples.

As per the legend, Lord Brahma brought the holy water from all over the world and poured in the Brahma Teerth - the holy well in this temple. He got rid of his sin and curse in this temple.

As per another legend, the greatChola king Raja Raja was travelling through this village once. His servants were paving the path by cutting down the plants and removing the grass. In one particular place, they were shocked to find blood oozing out from the ground. It was brought to the king's notice. As per his order, the land was dug and a Shiv Linga idol was discovered; it had a cut on its head. The king built this temple with this Shiv Linga idol as the main deity.

The temple is large with a five tiered tower. The sanctum sanctorum has a big Shiv Linga idol with a small Nandi in the maha mandapa. There is another Nandi idol at a corner in the same mandapa facing the opposite direction; it is believed that the river Nandi originated from the mouth of this idol. There is another Nandi idol which is a beautiful sculpture located near the Brahma Teerth - the holy well. It is rare to find a well in front of the main shrine. The outer area also has a huge Nandi idol near the long dwajastambha and bali peetha.

The temple is full of antique pillars and the pillars have beautiful sculptures. Few pillars even have carvings which are erotic.

The inner prakara has a lot of idols such as 63 Nayanmars, Kailasanathar Shiv Linga, Brahma, Samba Parameswara Shiv Linga, Saraswati, Katyayini, Vishwanathar-Vishalakshi, Gaja Lakshmi, Adikara Nandi and Surya. The sub shrines such as Somaskandar, Chandrasekhar, Murugan (utsava), Subramanya with his consorts and Veerabhadra are located in the same prakara.

The big and beautiful sculptures of Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma, Durga and Chandikeswara are found as Goshta idols surrounding the main shrine wall. Two small shrines - Vinayaka and Bala Murugan are located at the entrance of the maha mandapa. The dwarapalaks sculptures are big and beautiful as usual in the other Chola temples.

There is a separate shrine for a big stone idol of Nataraja and Sivakami; it is rare to find.

The Goddess Akilandeswari's idol is big and found in the standing posture. The idol is located in a separate big shrine in the outer prakara of the temple. This shrine has its own Nandi mandapa and bali peetha. There is a small prakara around the shrine. Iccha, Gnana, Kriya, Chamundi, Brahmi and Varahi sculptures are carved in the wall surrounding the shrine. Ganesha and Subramanya idols are found at the entrance of the shrine. The shrine appears like a separate small temple; it is also facing the east direction similar to the sanctum sanctorum. 

In addition, the temple has a shrine for a beautiful idol of Nataraja and Sivakami. A small four pillared mandapa and the adjoining Navagraha shrine are also located in this temple. 

 THIRUPULEESWARAM, CHIDAMBARAM – CHIDAMBARAM - TOWN WEST

   Birth Place of Thiruneelakandanaar. Every body know Neelakanda Naayanar History.

   This is the Temple Place where Lord Shiva asked the Nayanaar to Take Oath by holding

   Wifes hand and taking dip in the Temple Tank. When the couple got up after dip they  

   became young and they started life again with the blessings of Shiva here. Murthy is

   known as Ilaimaiyaakkinaar. Thirupuleesa sametha Balasundari ambaal.

SITHTHAVADAM CHIDAMBARESWARAR – NEAR PANRUTI

  Place where many siththars lived and prayed and got jeeva vittam. There is no jeeva     

  Samaathi. But the name itself suggest there is a madam for siththars. And ancient temple

  More than 1500 years old Connected with Sundarar. When  Sundarar on his way to

  Chidambaram stayed in this Madam for a night , Lord Shiva in disguise of old man laid

  putting his Feet on Sundarar Head. When sundarar got up and changed his position again

  Shiva did the same thing. Sundarar Irritated Sundarar asked the old man why he  was

  doinglike this, He showed his  Real roopam of Shiva.

  Sundarar Got Shivs Thiruvadi Theekshai and Darshan. West Facing Moolavar

  No Navagraham. The Place also known as Kotlambakkam. The Place is said to remove

  Naga Dosham and  even very severe family problems.

NALLATHUR PONNAMBALANATHAR KOIL , NEAR CUDDALORE - PONDYCHERI

  It is noteworthy that Mahameru (the standing form Sri Chakra) is installed under the Feet of Mother Maha Tirupurasundari.
Though a Shiva Temple, all importance goes to Lord Muruga.  Skanda Sashti in October-November is the Brahmmotsavam of the temple.  The flag post of the tempe is before the shrine of Lord Muruga.  Lord Sundara Vinayaka, as the very name aptly suggests, is very handsome.  Those having pimples or scars in face worship Sundara Vinayaka applying sandal paste.
There is a sculpture in the Maha mandap of the temple depicting Maha Saraswathi-Goddess of wisdom- playing the Veena named Karna Vidayini.  Those aspiring higher education and educational skills worship Mother Karna Vidayini.
The Dwarapalakas (securites) at the entrance of shrine are close to the wall in Shiva temples.  Here, they are conveniently placed with sufficient space around and the devotee can circumambulate them with prayers.
There is a shrine for Lord Kalasamhara Murthy who hit Lord Yama the God of Death to protect Sage Markandeya.  Those aspiring longevity perform pujas here.  Maha Mryutyanja Homa (a ritual to beat Lord Yama) is performed in the temple on Tiruvadhirai day in December-January.  The place is also revered as Vada (north) Tirukadayur where Lord Amruthakadeswarar hit Yama to protect Sage Markandeya. As it is too ancient in age, it is difficult to explain the history of the temple clearly.  The structures are really wonderful.  It is said that Shivalingas being looked into through holes are of Fire nature.  The devotee cannot have that power of the body or soul to see the Lord directly.  It is believed that worshipping through wall holes gives the devotee the strength and power to do his/her prayers.
The Navagraha Yantra – a disc in which the powers of the planets are collectively embodied – is installed under the feet of the presiding deity Lord Swarnapureeswarar.  There is also a Nandhi Mandap.  A five minute prayer in the temple is believed to be equal to prayers of years.  Those suffering from breathing and stomach troubles pray to Sun on the first day of Adi falling in July and on the first day of Thai falling mostly on January 14, offering orange coloured clothes and wheat preparations as Dhan.  This is a suitable place for performing tarpan and ceremonies for ancestors also. Sivan Faces at East. Among the temples there is type of salara temple. Which has no entrance Before Moolavar. Devotees have to worship the Shivalingas through windows. 

Lord Vinayaka of the temple is praised as Sundara Vinayaka.  The Chokkattan Mandap and the lotus sculpture speak volumes of Tamil architectural skills.  It is believed that praying from this mandap brings total peace in families.  There are shrines for Lords Sundara Vinayaka, Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai, Sri Venugopala with His consorts Rukmini and Satyabama, Dakshinamurthy, Chandikeswara, Sun, Moon, Sri Anjaneya, Navagrahas the nine planets, divine cow Kamadenu, Bhairava, Sani Bhagwan (Saturn) in the corridor-prakara.
During the British rule, Pakoda daughter of the Cuddalore district collector prayed to Lord Shiva for restoration of her eye sight.  As Lord granted her prayer, she offered a big bell to the temple the sound of which is audible even at a long distance.

Vishnu & Brahma prayed to Sivan to give life to all Devas. Shiva asked them to make worship in this sthalam. He also located this sthalam and taught them how to do prayers by doing prayers to this eswar. They also did in the same way and got all Devas alive. Hence this is Muvarur , now changed as moovalur.

Siththar Thiruvilaiyadal Sthalam Siththar Sivayohiyar when going to Papnasam for seeing Agastya  maharishi , here saw cattle crying near  their shepherd who died. Sivayohi went into his body and returned with cattle to house. When Sheperd wife touched him, he refused and the matter went to the court, Siva Yohi informed full truth and left the body of Sheperd and went to the Place where he kept his Body. But lord Siva made his body disappear. Hence Sivayohi lived here for 3000 years under a banyan tree and here only Thorumoolar@ Siva Yohiar wrote Thrumanthiram. There is separate small temple for Thirumoolar also.

Place where Umamaheswari got the boon of being with Shiva always. Lord Shiva himself has informed that this kshetram is sacred than kasi .when a Brahmin while bringing the asthi of his father for submerging in Ganges at Kasi from Madurai place the asthi on banks of the river for doing santhyavanthan. While he was doing sandyavandan when the river water sprayed on the asthi kalasam, the asthi became flowers. At that time Shivs told in Asareeri.                                                   

Sthalam where Kashyapar has ashram and Lord Muruga to protect him killed two demons( malaiyan,maakaran) wearing garland of kadambamalar and worshipped this God. Hence this God is kadambesan.

That sangu has been taken and kept separately and we can have darshan.

To know Sundarars importance Shiva  created Stomach pain to Kalikaama naayanaar and to remove the pain He sent Sundarar to the place. Not interested in seeing Sundarar , Kalikaama Nayanaar  killed himself. When Sundarar at kalikaamanayanar house asked for him  and  had  tried to kill himself if Kalikaama naayanaar comes . At this time Shiva appeared before him and gave life to Kalikaama naayanaar  and  also  took both nayanmaars into himself.

When Devars & Asurars  grinding Manthara malai for getting Amutham – Mohini  took all the Amutham from them for the distribution of Devars only . Asuran Swarbaanu took amirtham impersonating as Deva. On knowing this from Suryan & Chandran - Mohini hit Swarbaanu with the Spoon ( Karandi) the Head of swarbaanu strongly. Swarbaanu Head broken and fell at Sirapuram alias Sirkashi and Body fell at Sembaambinkudi alias Sembangudi. Taking Amirtham they prayed Shiva to give Power of swallowing  Suryan and Chandran . Shiva gave that Power only during Grahana Kalams. He made them as a part of Navagraha as Kethu. This is  aadi kethu sthalam. Sthalam where  Swarbanu   was changed as Kethu with Snake Head and Human Body.

Angola is the Sanskrit name for Azhinjal Tree – fruits fell from the tree will go and stick to the tree itself.That is the speciality of the tree.

This Vinayaka is special as this has been mentioned as angola ganapathy in sivananda Lahari by Bagwan ADisankara and mentioned by Maha periyavar in his Deivathin Kural. Infact Maha Periyava has worshipped here. Sankadahara Sathurthy ans specially coming in Maasi month is very special here. Murthy is Swayambu and combination of  Ganesh and  Shiva.
