Temples 8

13. Sthalam: Maandurai
Swami: Ambiravananathar
Ambal: Azhagal Uyarnda Ammai

Route: This temple is located 3 Kms from Lalgudi towards Tiruchy. Frequent bus services between Tiruchy and Lalgudi are available.

Note: Though it is a village, it is very near to lalgudi and also trcihy (Srirangam & thiruvanaikka), so you can get everything from there. But dont expect anything on the temple locality.

Legend:
Surya, Chandra, Kanvar and Vishnu are said to have worshipped Shiva here. Mrikandu Munivar (father of Markandeya) and a deer are said to have worshipped Shiva under a mango tree, and this legend is illustrated in stucco in the temple.
Bhrama is said to have brought the Gayatri Nadi at the completion of his worship here, and his act of having made the false claim of having seen the top of the column of fire in which Shiva had manifested himself, was absolved here.
Indra is said to have worshipped Shiva to absolve himself of the sin of having deceived Akalya, the wife of Gowtama Rishi. Bhrama and Vishnu adorn the niches in the walls of the sanctum. Inscriptions from the Chola period are seen in this temple.
A brahmin by birth who did "panchamaapadhaga" got resolved from his sin after worshipping this swami.
14.Sthalam: MAVOOTHU
Deity: Murugan (VELAPPAR)
Route: This temple is located near Andipatti, in Madurai district.

It is in the midst of mountains and is reachable by climbing some 300 steps. The Main deity is lord Muruga and the temple is also called Mavuthu Velappar Temple. The pooja is still conducted by the Paliyars. The temple is by the side of stream. The specialty is that, the water comes out as a natural spring from among the roots of the mango trees and forms into a stream. That is why it is called Mavuthu. Ma stands for mango in Tamil and Uthu refers to the spring in Tamil.

There will be only the shrine of this velappa swami in the temple. The stream will be of natural beauty and is considered holy.

Also places like suruli falls, kumbakarai falls, sothuparai dam, are all nearby to enjoy the holidays... Mavuthu is much a village and wont get anything there. Also, there will be lot of guide disturbances. You can get any sort of info from people there itself. No need of guide and all.
