Purana says Agyastar worshiped Siva here. He
made 107 siva lingas and at that time he remembered that he forgot to worship
lord Ganesha. All 107 lingas together formed as Ganesha under the sthala
vruksham. The Ganesha is Swayambu and there is no trunk for him. 108 linga
which Agastyar made is known as Nootreteeswarar and that is the one we worship
in the temple.
